BEVERLY HILLS, MICHIGAN – Week 12 brought us back to the sometimes-friendly confines of Bushie’s backyard.
Thankfully, there were no threats from neighbor Clarence to Hulk-smash Mike R.’s vehicle, nor were the police called seventeen times by other neighbors. If you’ve forgotten about Clarence, feel free to revisit the 2025 Week 14 recap and refresh your memory – https://legcornhole.com/2025-week-14-recap/.
But there was the typical cold welcome from our host, Bushie, whose level of joy seemed somewhere between colonoscopy prep and having to deal with the 60-plus-year-old ladies who screwed up accounts payable.
Bushie channeled his rage—not toward his unwanted cornhole guests, but toward his cornhole game.
He couldn’t have started the night much better.
In the opening game of the night, Bushie drilled a walk-off four-bagger against Paul, helping him and KP cruise to a 21-8 victory. Bushie threw 6.6 points per round (“PPR”) and outscored Paul head-to-head.
Then in his second game of the night (Game 3 overall), Bushie hung tough head-to-head against KP, particularly late in the game. Down 14-1, Bushie elevated his game, stymied KP and gave Flowers a chance to make up ground against Melissa. Bushie’s final four rounds against KP went 9-8, 10-10, 12-10, and 9-10. Unfortunately for Bushie and Flowers, Melissa wasn’t interested in participating in the comeback story. She scored six points during that stretch, including the game-winning points.
Still, Bushie finished that game by throwing 7.6 PPR, providing a glimpse of the ceiling that makes him one of the more intriguing players in the league.
Then Bushie took a very long break to cook, crush Coors Light and hit a few “hugers” in the basement.
Upon returning to the boards, he understandably “slipped” to a 5.4 PPR average over his final few games. Apparently crushing beers and indulging in basement hugers does not maximize fine motor skills.
Even so, Bushie finished the night averaging 6.1 PPR, 79% accuracy and 1.5 cornholes per round, producing a 19.4 KPM and a 2-3 record.
For the season, Bushie has quietly been very good. He’s sitting at #11 in the Power Rankings and is knocking on the door of the top 10.
When he’s not impersonating the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Bushie is firmly in the conversation for the 2026 LEG Most Improved Player award.
PLAYING GREAT ENOUGH TO LOSE
Paul somehow defied logic, turning an outstanding individual performance into a loss in Game 5.
He was red-hot, throwing an 8.5 PPR and outscoring Flowers by an average of 1.83 points per round. Yet somehow, his team still lost.
At the other end of the boards, Nick was doing essentially the same thing to Mike V. A doubles match became a bizarre race to see who could outscore his opponent faster: Nick against Mike V., or Paul against Flowers?
Paul’s 1.83-point differential was exceptional.
Nick’s was even better.
He outscored Mike V. by 2.83 points per round.
Despite Nick’s relatively pedestrian 6.0 PPR compared to Paul’s 8.5, that advantage in differential per round was enough to eke out a 21-20 victory.
Don’t feel too bad for Paul, though. He still averaged 7.4 PPR for the night and posted a 23.9 KPM.
GAME OF THE NIGHT
Choosing the Game of the Night is never easy, but Week 12 proved extraordinarily difficult.
Several games had legitimate claims:
- Game 5, where Paul and Nick essentially raced each other to 21 points while their teammates tried to keep up.
- Game 12, an intense battle of heavy hitters featuring KP and Dibble against Nick and Joe (more on that game later).
- Game 10, a 21-round nail-biter in which Matt H. and Erik edged Grandpa Dan and Melissa, 21-16.
- Game 15, a 27-round, 30-minute marathon where Paul and Erik outlasted KP and Matt H., 21-19.
In the end, however, Game 14 earns the honor.
Grandpa Dan and Joe squared off against Dibble and Nick in a matchup that, on paper, looked heavily tilted toward the latter.
And the opening three rounds did absolutely nothing but reinforce Dibble and Nick as favorites.
Dibble came out firing, throwing a four-bagger in the first round and grabbing two points.
Nick added five more in the second, beating Joe 8-3.
Then Dibble took down Grandpa Dan 8-7 in the third for another point.
After three rounds, the score was 8-0. Let the blowout commence.
Except Joe wasn’t having it.
In the fourth round, Joe rejected the notion of a blowout with the authority of the late, great Dikembe Mutombo. He stuffed a four-bagger right back in Nick’s face, scoring five points while wagging his finger.
Joe and Grandpa Dan refused to stop scoring, ripping off 21 consecutive points for a blowout win of their own.
The underdogs win! Grandpa Dan and Joe 21, Dibble and Nick 8.
Joe stepped into a phone booth between the third and fourth rounds and emerged as Superman. Over his final four rounds, he averaged an absurd 9.5 PPR.
Nick played very well against him, averaging 7.5 PPR during the same stretch. It just didn’t matter. There was no slowing down the locomotive Joe had become.
On the other side, Dibble had a dramatic fall from grace. After his strong start, he limped to the finish line at just 4.3 PPR over his final four rounds. Grandpa Dan added insult to injury, averaging 7.8 PPR during Dibble’s collapse.
Most Games of the Week are decided by a few clutch rounds, a late comeback or a dramatic finish.
This one earned the honor because of how stunning the upset was.
The game went from 8-0 to 8-21.
Joe and Grandpa Dan winning was not a huge Cinderella story. But winning in such blowout fashion, scoring 21 unanswered points against two elite players was very impressive.
Well done, fellas.
MUSHROOM STAMP MOMENT
Game 12 was another legitimate Game of the Night candidate, featuring Dibble and KP against Joe and Nick.
And this one lived up to the billing.
All four players were throwing lights out: Joe at 7.1 PPR, Dibble at 7.3, Nick at 7.6 and KP at an unreal 9.0.
The game also featured some ridiculous momentum swings.
KP and Dibble jumped out to leads of 11-0 and 16-2, looking as though they were running away with the match.
Then Joe jumped into the phone booth again. He hammered Dibble with a 12-2 round, cutting the deficit to 16-12.
Nick and Joe kept coming. Soon, they climbed all the way back to 18-15.
But they never got any closer because Dibble had enough.
In the 15th round, with KP and Dibble limping toward the finish line and desperately trying to survive a 15-2 run from Joe and Nick, Dibble delivered when his team needed him most.
Dibble hit a walk-off four-bagger to outscore Joe 12-4 in the round, giving his team the final three points it needed to escape with the victory.
Without that round, KP and Dibble may have watched a 16-2 lead disappear completely.
For that reason, Dibble’s walk-off four-bagger earns this week’s Mushroom Stamp Moment.
