The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (“LEG”) was founded in 2016 by me, Kurtis Peters, under the premise of bringing some of the most important people in my life together on a consistent basis to enjoy quality time with one another, drink a few beers, relieve the stress life brings upon all of us, and have friendly competition without risk of injury.
Though the league name and participants might suggest this is a good ol’ boys club, the August National of cornhole, if you will…the opposite is true! Women are welcome to join LEG, but most women are appalled by us, including our wives and girlfriends.
We play for enjoyment, but also for the right to have our name engraved on the LEG Championship Trophy (or, “The Cup”). The Road to the Cup is daunting, but the feeling of cementing your legacy as a LEG Champion and drinking beer from The Cup is glorious.
The inaugural season of LEG had 18 players participate in the regular season and an additional 3 newcomers joined for the 2016 Postseason tournament, bringing year 1 participation to 21 total players. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and have had more than 50 players participate since inception.
During the 2017 season we started tracking advanced statistics, including toss accuracy, cornhole rate, and points per round, among many others (refer to statistics page for more). These metrics are designed to provide a better measure of individual power rankings, and are all a component of the Kornhole Power Metric (“KPM”), which combines key statistics into one focal point to measure a player’s value beyond wins and losses.
The KPM is a weekly and cumulative metric, and is calculated as follows:
- 50% weighting given to points per round
- 25% weighting given to cornholes per round
- 25% weighting given to accuracy
The participation growth is an indicator that the league is on the right track, and so is the fact that ESPN began televising cornhole events throughout the country shortly after we created this mayhem. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a cutting edge idea, and we continue to pioneer this sport with our advanced player statistics and use of data analytics.
