2024 Week 10 Recap

BEVERLY HILLS, MICHIGAN – In 2020, the honorable Coach Mike earned the nickname, “Aunt Millie Mike” because of his propensity for receiving bun runs. A revisit to the bun run annals may be in order, because a new “Bun Run King” might be crowned – Erik has been bun run FIVE times already this season, including twice this week.

Erik isn’t having the best season of his career, but it’s hardly the worst. Evidence of that is his -2.7 net scoring differential per game for the year, despite logging five losses of 21-0. In other words, with the bun runs removed Erik normally finds himself in a competitive match.

Aunt Millie Mike will remain the “Bun Run King” for now. But future partners beware, Erik could be on the verge (or a mission?) of dethroning the King.

2020 Week 2 Recap

GAME OF THE NIGHT

On paper, Bushie and Mike V. against Dibble and Roger is no contest, as the latter are heavy favorites. No offense to Bushie or Mike V., but we are talking about the #2 and #3 ranked players (Dibble and Roger, respectively) against the #18 and #24 ranked players (Bushie and Mike V., respectively). Yet, this match-up in game 13 earned the week 10 Game of the Night.

Bushie started the game on fire, posting rounds of 8-3 and 9-4 against Dibble to help his team claim a 10-6 lead. However, Roger immediately answered Bushie’s one-man run with one of his own – a 10-0 run, thanks to rounds of 10-2 and 5-3, giving the favorites a 16-10 lead in the fourth round.

Alas, the heroics from Bushie weren’t done yet – in the next round he threw a 4-bagger against Dibble, earning six more points to tie the game, 16-16. Did anyone see this coming? A 16-16 tie in the late stages of this match? Of course not, but Bushie’s 8.25 points per round through four rounds is the reason his team was within reach of a gigantic upset.

At the other end of the boards, Roger fought to avoid the upset. He outscored Mike V., 6-3, giving his team a 19-16 lead. But, Roger had a chance to end the game with a cornhole on his final bag of the round, and he missed.

The underdogs couldn’t quite capitalize, either. Bushie scored two more points, closing the deficit to 19-18. But, in order to complete the upset, Mike V. needed to outscore Roger in the sixth round, which would’ve been the first round of the game that swung in his favor.

His first bag was a cornhole, which created cheers and murmurs throughout the crowd. Roger’s first bag landed on the board. Suddenly, the tension ratcheted up another notch.

Mike V. needed to step on Roger’s neck with a scoring bag…but he missed off the board. Roger flipped the pressure when his second bag found the bottom of the hole. Mike V. proceeded to miss his final two bags off the board, while Roger boarded his final two bags for a 6-3 round, and 21-18 victory.

Bushie was unbelievable in this match, outscoring Dibble head-to-head, 37-19. He had a game-high 7.4 points per round and 10 cornholes. Had they pulled this upset, it may have been the match of the 2024 season.

MUSHROOM STAMP MOMENT

The week 10 Mushroom Stamp Moment (“MSM”) belongs to Mike W. and the way he closed game 16. Facing a 19-16 deficit, Mike W. drained three cornholes en route to a 10-point round (he won the round 10-3), which clinched a 21-19 victory for JG and him.

Congratulations to Mike W. for rising up in crunch time to deliver a menacing knockout blow.
